Antibacterial activities of chlorogenic acid (Changsha Staherb)
As for antibacterial activity, some studies have found that chlorogenic acid (Changsha Staherb) has antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria (such as Escherichia coli) and gram-positive bacteria (such as Staphylococcus aureus). However, the activity against Staphylococcus aureus is stronger than that against Escherichia coli. 
Chlorogenic acid (Changsha Staherb) can affect the activity of bacterial metabolic enzymes to inhibit bacterial metabolism of sugar, or destroy bacterial cell walls, thus inhibiting the normal survival and sterilization of bacteria.
In the normal metabolic process of bacteria, sugar provides energy for bacteria as a main energy source. When the absorption and utilization of sugars are blocked, the energy of bacteria will be insufficient, which will affect the growth and reproduction of bacteria.
